CMeIn vs ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Grok: Which AI for Dating Photos?

Every big AI assistant can now take a photo of you and put you somewhere else. ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok all do it, and two of them will do it without charging you. So the honest first question is not which paid app to buy. It is whether you need one at all.
Here is how the three general chatbots compare for dating photos specifically, where each one is genuinely good, and what none of them do.
The short version
| CMeIn | ChatGPT | Gemini | Grok | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Built for | Photos of you that look like you | Everything | Everything | Everything |
| Cost to try | $2.99 for two photos | Free plan, with limits | Free in the Gemini app | Paid plan required to edit a photo (reported) |
| Keeping your face | Built from several angles, never retouched | Strong in published tests, varies by photo | Mixed in published tests | Not well tested for this |
| A consistent set | Same likeness model for every photo | Each image drawn fresh | Each image drawn fresh | Each image drawn fresh |
| Scenes | Over 4,500 ready situations | You write each one | You write each one | You write each one |
| Retouching | None | Leans flattering unless told not to | Leans flattering unless told not to | Leans flattering unless told not to |
The chatbot columns describe what is publicly documented and what independent testers have reported in 2026. We have not run a controlled test of all three on the same faces, and results on your face may differ from anyone else's.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT's current image model is the one that published comparisons most often rate best at holding a face. One tester who uploaded a selfie found it kept the face, hair, eyes and even a small mole beside the eyebrow. Another series of tests rated it ahead of Gemini on keeping a character's face and clothing stable across several images.
That makes it the strongest free route for most people. The catch is the same one every general model has: it redraws the whole picture each time, so one result can be close and the next slightly less so. We cover how to get the best out of it in making dating photos with ChatGPT or Gemini.
Gemini
Gemini's image model, widely known as Nano Banana, is the easiest to try: it is free inside the Gemini app. Google markets it on keeping a person consistent across edits, and for scenery, style and speed it is excellent.
On likeness from a real reference photo, published tests are split. At least one direct comparison found it lost the face where ChatGPT kept it. If you use it, be strict about checking every result.
Grok
Grok can edit an uploaded photo of you, but on xAI's own apps that is no longer a free feature. Several reports say image generation and editing moved behind a paid plan in early 2026, with SuperGrok at around $30 a month as the usual way in. That followed a period in which xAI tightened what Grok will do with images of real people.
For a dating photo, that means paying a monthly subscription for a general tool that was not designed for the job. If you already pay for it, try it. If you do not, it is the hardest of the three to justify for this.
What none of the three do
All three are general tools. That is their strength and, for dating photos, their limit.
They do not know what a dating photo is for. Ask for "me at a nice restaurant" and you get a man alone at a table in good light. That is a portrait with scenery, and on a dating app it asks a stranger to rate you.
A photo that works does something else. It puts you inside a real social situation, with other people present and something happening. We call that social convention: it is what makes the photo believable as a moment out of your life. And it puts you at the centre of that moment, the one the others are turned toward, which we call social leadership. Together they make social composition: a frame a stranger wants to be part of, and wants to be in with you. That reaction is what turns into a message. You can prompt a chatbot for it, and you will have to, every time.
They do not keep a set together. A profile is four to six photos, and people compare them. Five separate generations can give you five slightly different men.
They lean toward flattering. Unless you push back, the default output is a little smoother, a little sharper and a little younger than you. That photo works until the date.
What CMeIn does instead
CMeIn is built for this one job. CMeIn makes social composition, and it does not ask you to write prompts. Its 4,500 scenes are situations rather than backdrops, so each one places you inside a real moment as the person it is organised around. It builds your likeness from several angles of your face, scored against five key poses, and it does not smooth, slim or reshape you. If a photo does not look like you, you can ask for the credits back and a person looks at it.
It is not free. It starts at $2.99 for two photos, with no subscription, which is about a tenth of a month of Grok.
And one thing of ours that is free: Pose Maxing
CMeIn also has a tool of its own that none of the chatbots has an equivalent of, because it leaves your photo alone.
When you ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok to change anything about a photo, they redraw all of it, your face included. CMeIn's Pose Maxing works the other way round. You give it a photo you already have, and it changes only how you are standing or sitting. Your face, clothes, the place and the people with you stay exactly as they were.
It recognises 13 postures, from standing to a bar stool to sitting on the floor, and holds 149 corrections between them. A standing photo alone has 40, and combining up to two body corrections with one for gaze or expression and one for the light gives 5,719 different versions of that one photo.
That matters because your real photos usually already have the hard part: real friends, a real evening, a real moment. What lets them down is posture, you at the edge with your arms hanging. Fix that and the same moment shows you leading it. It is free right now, up to 300 photos a day.
Which one to use
- Already have good photos with friends, but the pose is off? Start with Pose Maxing. It is free, and nothing about you is invented.
- Want to experiment at no cost? Try ChatGPT first for likeness, Gemini second. Check every result against a real selfie.
- Already paying for Grok? Use it the same way, with the same checks. It is not worth subscribing for this alone.
- Want a whole profile that looks like you, in situations that show your life? That is what CMeIn is built for.
