Blur part of an image, free and private

Hide a face, a number plate or a personal detail. Mark the areas, choose blur, pixelate or a solid box, set the strength and download. Free, no account, and the image never leaves your device.

Free, no account. Stays on your device: nothing is uploaded and nothing is added to a gallery.

Hide details without sending the photo anywhere

The reason to blur something is that it is private, so the photo should not go anywhere to have it done. Here the work happens in your browser, on your own device. The image is never uploaded to us, so there is nothing to store and nothing to delete.

It is free, needs no account and has no daily limit.

How to blur part of a photo

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or drop it on the page.

Drag across the photo to mark an area, or tap Add area. Mark as many as you need, as rectangles or ovals.

Drag an area to move it, drag a corner to resize it, and tap Remove to delete the selected one. On a keyboard, focus an area and move it with the arrow keys.

Choose Blur, Pixelate or Solid, set the strength, check the preview and download.

Which effect to use

Blur softens an area so it blends with the photo. It suits faces in the background and anything that only needs to be unrecognisable at a glance.

Pixelate replaces the area with large squares. At high strength it is a better choice than blur for text and numbers.

Solid covers the area with a plain colour. Nothing of the original is left underneath, so use it for anything that must not be readable at all: card numbers, addresses, documents, passwords.

Light blur on small text can sometimes be partly reversed or guessed. When in doubt, use Solid.

Good to know

The downloaded file contains only the edited pixels. The original under a blurred or covered area is not hidden in the file, and hidden details such as the location the photo was taken are not carried over.

There is no automatic face detection: you choose exactly what is hidden, and nothing about the photo is analysed.

Common questions

Is it free to blur an image here?

Yes. No account, no charge and no daily limit.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser and the photo never leaves your device. We only count that a blur happened and which effect was used, never the photo or its name.

Can a blurred area be un-blurred?

The saved file does not contain the original pixels under the area. But a light blur over text can sometimes be guessed. For anything that must not be read, use Pixelate at high strength or Solid.

Can I blur more than one area?

Yes. Add as many areas as you need. They all use the same effect and strength.

Can I blur the background and keep the person sharp?

Not on this page, which hides chosen areas. The free photo editor can blur outside a selected subject.

Will the image be added to my CMeIn gallery?

No, never, even if you are signed in. The result only goes to your device when you download it.
