Crop an image, free and on your device

Crop a JPG, PNG or WebP freely or to a ready ratio like 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16, and download it. Free, no account, no limit, and the image is never uploaded.

Choose an image

Free, no account. Stays on your device: nothing is uploaded and nothing is added to a gallery.

Crop without uploading anything

Choose an image, drag the frame over the part you want to keep, and download the result. The cropping happens in your browser, on your own device. The image is never sent to us, so there is nothing to store and nothing to delete.

It is free, needs no account and has no daily limit, because nothing about it runs on our servers.

How to crop an image

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or drop it on the page.

Pick a ratio, or keep Free to crop to any shape.

Drag the frame to move it and drag a corner to resize it. On a keyboard, focus the frame and use the arrow keys, with Shift for bigger steps.

Tap Crop, check the result and download it.

Which ratio to choose

1:1 is the square used for profile pictures and square posts.

4:5 is the tallest portrait Instagram shows in the feed, so it takes up the most room on a phone screen.

9:16 is the full phone screen: Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

16:9 is the wide frame of a YouTube thumbnail, a laptop screen or a video.

3:4, 4:3, 2:3 and 3:2 are the shapes most cameras and phones take photos in, useful when you want to straighten up a composition without changing its feel.

Cropping only removes pixels, it never adds them. If you also need an exact pixel size, crop to the ratio here first, then use the image resizer.

Quality, formats and transparency

The part you keep is saved at its full resolution. Saving as PNG keeps every pixel exactly. JPG and WebP are smaller files with a quality setting; 85 to 95 is usually indistinguishable from the original.

PNG and WebP keep transparent areas transparent. JPG cannot, so transparent areas become white.

Hidden details such as the location a photo was taken are not carried into the new file, because the image is redrawn.

Common questions

Is this image cropper free?

Yes. No account, no charge and no daily limit.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is cropped in your browser and never leaves your device. We only count that a crop happened and which ratio was used, never the image or its name.

Does cropping reduce the quality?

No. The part you keep stays at its original resolution. Choose PNG for an exact copy of those pixels, or JPG or WebP at a high quality for a smaller file.

What size is 4:5 for Instagram?

Instagram shows 4:5 posts at 1080 × 1350 pixels. Crop to 4:5 here, then resize to 1080 wide if you want that exact size.

Can I crop a photo into a circle?

Not on this page. It crops to rectangles. Most sites that show round profile pictures expect a square image and make it round themselves, so crop to 1:1.

Will the cropped image be added to my CMeIn gallery?

No, never, even if you are signed in. The result only goes to your device when you download it.
